Default Guild Wars Comic

Our Guild has been making a comic out of Guild Wars screenshots for a number of months now, and we posted it under "Lyssa's Fiction." But my other Guildie told me that it was deleted, and also that there were other comics posted here. So we think this must be the place to put it.

Yeah... Can't find the old thread at all.

Either way, updated with comic 12, we'll be working on 13 soon.

It a nice comic with a good storyline. My only Problems are:

1) I sometimes find the order in which to read, A new system maybe?

2) I absolutely hate the way in which you display dialouge. I think you need a better font, better use of colors in the font, and maybe char Bubbles and thought bubbles. You may also want to have a black square which describes the scene at the beginning of each comic. I also don't like the "feel" of the comic. I think that each comic should have it's own special style. Maybe a series of filters or some other thing that just separates your comic from all other comics.

3) You should learn flash, and make a cool flash object in which you could maybe turn the pages, or make it interactive. I would be well worth it if you're serious about comic-making.

Other than that, It is a good comic. It just need a make-over IMO

I'd have to agree. The Text is unorganized, the pictures aren't very organized. I have to strain my eyes to read the font in specific scenes. =/

Pictures not organized? The first two I know weren't very well put together, but from 3 and forward, they get better quality wise. As for the text, yeah, we're thinking of a new way to do the text, as for now each character has their own color.

In some it's better than others. I think for the most part you can figure out which order to read the text in the frames, and when it's not intuitive we try to include arrows pointing to the next frame.

Nick did want character bubbles, or at least lines to the character speaking. He was outvoted though, so I have to say this is probably a personal preference. I do agree that it is kind of hard to distinguish between colors sometimes, but I think that for the most part it is easily evident who is speaking.

Describing the scene before each comic, or at least where it may be relevant, is an idea we could think about.

For the "feel" I can't really say anything, I'd have to think that's another personal preference. I wouldn't be against a sepia filter to make it seem like a western, but I don't know if everyone would like that.

The 'art' is in the photography and writing of it, so that's what we're focusing on.

That is just too gimmicky and useless for our tastes. If we learned flash (and could afford Adobe Flash Studio), we wouldn't be using Guild Wars shots, anyway.

Thank you for your input, we will consider it.

I hate to say it, but if more than one person has a problem with this then you might need to seriously consider it. I mean I know it's just two, but think about the fan base. I would definitely help your growing comics.

Well the thing is that its not that simple. I mean a chat bubble would help, because then you could just put all the text in black. But really, You need to look at color wheels and pic colors that mess. I mean red on black, and black on blue Seriously do not mesh. Colour Lovers is a great site for this kind of thing, google it. About the Black Squares in which you use to display text upon... You seriously need to find a better method.. It's not very.. uhm... Professional...

And please.. no Sephia tone..

How come? I can whip up a quick one, it would look so much better, you could solve your Dialouge order problem at the same time...

But more than one person also prefers the method. You don't represent everyone's opinions.

The original text colors were colors that showed nicely on black such as white and other bright colors. But there are only so many colors you can use, and Nick seems to be against re-using hues. The bubbles, I think, would get in the way even more than the text currently does, with the lines connecting them to their speaker.

Additionally, I liked the black background better. Possibly gray would be even better, though, like how they actually do it in Guild Wars.

But it's not professional, it's a hobby. Not to mention that this is again a personal opinion of professionalism. Sure, most webcomics have text bubbles, but how are we ever going to improve if we don't try new things?

That was a joke.

Yes, that's true, I thought you might suggest something like that. But I like static pictures. It's simple, quick, and effective.

Oh man, I just re-read my post and realized that I was kind of antagonizing you. I apologize, I shouldn't have done that. After all, you're not a warrior.

Yeah, taking some suggestions from the fanbase, we decided to try out text bubbles. I am extremely pleased with the results, and would not mind doing it in this style from now on. But we'll see what everyone thinks.

We've had a few updates since you last heard from us... not too many, though if we continue to get positive feedback we'll be working on more.

What're you using to build the comic image? MS Paint?
